List additions before selecting a panel

An EV charger or heat pump does not automatically require a larger service. Give the electrician existing and planned equipment specifications and ask for the load assessment behind the recommendation. Include water heating, cooking, charging and workshop loads.

Capacity and circuit routing answer different questions

A home can need a new circuit without requiring more utility capacity. Separate service changes, panel work, appliance circuits, equipment and restoration in the estimate. Load management may be an option for the professional to assess.

Define outage power explicitly

List the loads you want backed up and have the transfer, generator or battery arrangement specified. Ordinary grid-connected solar does not itself promise outage power. Confirm the actual utility’s current interconnection process before energizing.
